Decades of dissection have never found a discrete structure there.
No anatomical study has ever isolated a separate organ at the place the G-spot is supposed to be. What is there is a region: the front wall of the vagina, where the internal arms and bulbs of the clitoris, the urethral sponge and a dense bed of nerves all sit within a centimetre or two of each other.
That is why the sensation is real while the anatomy is not. Pressing there presses the clitoris from the inside. The name is a historical accident — it honours Ernst Gräfenberg, who in 1950 described the sensitivity of the urethral region and never claimed to have found a button.
